(¤ 13.10.1894, † 1983) The Slovenian dermatologist was born in Kranjska Gora. 1913 studied medicine in Graz and Prague. 1920 doctorate. Subsequent dermatological training in Prague with Frantisek Samberger. Further training with Trýb in Brno, Joseph Jadassohn in Wroclaw and Lucien Marie Pautrier in Paris. 1925 habilitation in Brno. 1932 Appointment as full professor of dermatology at the University Clinic in Zagreb. Kogoj had already been director of the dermatology clinic since 1926. Despite his fruitful scientific and professional work and the successful development of the clinic and the dermatology department, Kogoj was removed from office from 1941 to 1945, probably due to his Jewish origin, as Croatia was under the control of the Axis powers at the time. Kogoj was one of the honorary vice-presidents of the 10th International Congress of Dermatology, which took place in London in 1952. This congress was attended by some of the dermatologists whose pictures can be found in Kogoj's collection. These include John Belisario (1900-1976), Marion B. Sulzberger (1895-1983), Alfred Guido Miescher (1887-1961), Lucien-Marie Pautrier (1876-1959), Eric Hoffman (1868-1959), Oscar Gans (1888-1983) and Geoffrey Barrow Dowling (1891-1976).
Field(s) of research: Spongiform kogoj pustule (unilocular spongiform pustule). Further research concerned Mal de Meleda, whose exact clinical features and mode of inheritance he described, as well as "vulgar eczema".
