Ki-67

Histologically important marker for proliferating cells. Ki-67 (Ki = keel). The protein is detectable during the active G(1), S, G(2) and M phase of the cell cycle. Ki-67 is missing in the G(0) phase of resting cells. The protein is well suited as a marker to identify the proportion of proliferating cells in a population. Diagnostically significant is not only the density but also the distribution pattern of Ki-67 positive cells in the tissue.
