Wilhelm Richter received his dermatological training as an unsalaried assistant physician under Max Joseph (1860-1932) at the skin department of the Berlin Surgical University Clinic, whose director at that time was the surgeon August Bier. Richter was among the signatories of an election appeal in favor of the NSDAP on November 5/6, 1932, and joined the party in 1933. In June 1933, he became a department head for medical affairs in the Reich leadership of the SA and held the rank of SA-Sturmführer in this Nazi organization. Richter, who also belonged to the NS-Dozentenbund as well as the Reichsfachschaft Hochschullehrer, expressed the intention to run the clinic "in a purely National Socialist sense." On March 1, 1939, he took over this position completely, but already on September 15 he reported for military service in the Wehrmacht. In the rank of chief medical officer, Richter took over tasks of the army medical organization; in addition, he was ordered to find and collect file material on Robert Koch in Warsaw. Wilhelm Richter died in the night of March 13-14, 1944 during heavy defensive fighting in the southern section of the Eastern Front north of Nikolayev at the age of 51. Already during the absence of Wilhelm Richter during the Second World War, the senior physician Harry Braun (1908-1979) took over the directorship at the University Dermatological Clinic in Greifswald.
