Studies on pemphigus, chrysarobin, pyrrogallus acid as well as fine tissue examinations of various skin diseases. 1880 habilitation. Until 1887 director of the General Polyclinic in Vienna, 1888-1891 associate professor and director of the Dermatological Clinic in Innsbruck. 1892-1901 in succession to Eduard Lipp, associate professor and director of the dermatological clinic in Graz. 1901 appointed professor at the University of Graz. 1895, 7 years before the publication of Karl Herxheimer, first description of the (Jarisch) Herxheimer reaction. Died of typhoid fever in Graz on 20.3. 1902. His successor became Karl Kreibich.
