Abonormal widening of the stratum granulosum of the epidermis, e.g. in lichen planus. Hypergranulosis is regularly accompanied by compact orthohyperkeratosis. Exceptions are pityriasis rubra pilaris, in which hypergranulosis is accompanied by ortho- and parakeratosis, and flat warts, in which hypergranulosis is superimposed by plexiform orthokeratosis.
