Heubner, otto

(¤ 1843, † 1926) Pediatrician. Heubner was born in 1843 in Mühltroff (Vogtland, Saxony). School education in Grimma; medical studies at the University of Leipzig. Subsequently assistant at the Clinic for Internal Medicine in Leipzig. 1868 Habilitation for internal medicine. Since 1876 primarily pediatrician. In 1871 he was appointed associate professor of pediatrics. 1894 appointed to the Berlin Charité as the first full professor of paediatrics. Pediatrics was thus also established as a specialty in Germany. Heubner headed the children's hospital of the Charité until his retirement in 1913 and devoted himself to research into infectious diseases (meningococcal detection in cerebrospinal fluid, tuberculosis, diphtheria, syphilis endarteritis syphilitica) and the erythema exsudativum multiforme. The Heubner's star chart is one of the most important diagnostic signs of varicella. These topics were also the focus of his extensive publication activities. His Lehrbuch der Kinderkrankheiten, first published in 1903, remained the German standard work for decades.
