Congenital or early acquired lateral deviation of one or both big toe nails of unknown cause. Familial occurrence is described (Wagner G 2001). In rare cases the deviation of the nails becomes visible only during or after puberty. Incidence is not known.

Greyish-yellow discoloured nail plate of the big toe, increasingly curved in the longitudinal and transverse axis, shortened, adherent only in the proximal third of the nail bed, hardly growing. Characteristic are oyster shell-like transverse grooves of the nail plate.

Symptomatic, nail care. Treatment attempt with onycholytic paste (40% urea paste R109 ).
