Gibert, camille melchior

(¤ 1797, † 1866) French dermatologist was born on 18.8.1797 in Paris. He finished his medical studies in 1818. 1822 dissertation. In 1831 he was employed as a doctor at the Hôpital Saint Louis in Paris. In 1836 he was elected head physician at Hôpital Lourcine and in 1840 at Hôpital Saint Louis in Paris. Gibert was a strict adherent of Willan's teachings in France. His textbook "Manual de maladies special de la peau" was published in three editions between 1834 and 1860. In the last edition there is a short description of a new disease, pityriasis rosea, in Ordre 6 in the group Pityriasis in § 4 on page 402. Gibert is therefore the first describer of Pityriasis rosea.
