Treatment should be started as soon as possible after poisoning and also in suspected cases. Patients with normal kidney function are initially given a continuous intravenous infusion of 15 mg/kg bw in isotonic saline solution or 5% glucose solution (over 30 to 45 minutes). Repeat infusion after 12, 24, 36 hours with 10 mg/kg KG. Infuse 5-15 mg/kg KG after 48 and 60 hours. Use until the plasma concentration of ethylene glycol is below 0.2 g/l. Determine ethylene glycol plasma level every 12-24 hours.
