Cholinesterase

Cholinesterase, also called CHE, is an enzyme that catalyses the hydrolytic cleavage of the ester bond between the OH group of choline and the carboxy group of an organic acid.

Normal value: in serum: In women the normal value is between 4260 and 11250 U/l, in men between 5320 and 12920 U/l.

Pathologically increased: fatty liver, hyperthyroidism, obesity, exudative enteropathy, nephrotic system, diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia, Gilbert's disease

Pathologically debilitated: severe liver disease, tumors, drugs, chronic infections, muscle diseases, septic shock, intoxication with cholinesterase inhibitors, hereditary deficiency
