(¤ 1845,  1906) Internist, working in Wroclaw. In 1883, Alfred Buchwald described a "diffuse, idiopathic skin atrophy" which had already existed for more than 16 years in a 36-year-old patient. Based on the description of the case and the histological pictures, this was the first description of the chronically progressive skin borreliosis, the acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, as Karl Herxheimer called it in 1902.
