bilharzia. schistosoma haematobium in the urinary bladder. enlarged cross-section of an adult pair ("pair fluke"). the male rolls up the smaller female (Canalis gynaecophorus) from the outside. the sexual organs are cut in both. the numerous papillae are visible on the surface of the male. the males can reach a size of up to 20 mm, the females up to 15 mm.
bilharzia. egg of Schistosoma haematobium. typical for Schistosoma haematobium is the terminal spine. in contrast to other trematodes, the schistosomes do not have a lid (operculum). egg size: 50 x 150 µm.
Bilharzia. egg of Schistosoma intercalatum. in comparison to Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma intercalatum also has an end spine, but the egg is narrower and tapers towards the ends. egg size: 60 x 160 µm

Schistosoma japonicum lives in the venous plexus of the intestine and portal vein. the infection is widespread in China, Indonesia and the Philippines.
