Widespread annual meadow-grass from the genus Avena, which germinates in spring and can grow up to 50-120 cm high. Morphologically very similar to cultivated oats as a plant and also as a grain, but it has much smaller endosperm. Often found as wild growth on agricultural land.

Pollen very often triggers allergies; they fly between June and August and are between 36 and 44 µm in size. Cross allergies are possible with all other grass pollen (see below grass and cereal pollen).
