Tallowalkonium chloride (inci)

Tallowalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound based on fatty acids from tallow (usually beef tallow). The mixture is used in cosmetic formulations. It acts as a surfactant (washing-active substance; improves the even distribution of products during application), antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electrical charge on the surface, for example of hair) and as a preservative: substance used as a preservative in cosmetic preparations. Inhibits the growth of microorganisms (The general conditions for preservatives that may be used in cosmetics are defined in the EC Cosmetics Regulation - 1223/2009 - Annex V).
