Solanum dulcamara extract (inci)

Solanum dulcamara extract is the extract from the stems of Solanum dulcamara (syn.: Solanum dulcamara stem extract), the bitter-sweet nightshade, a plant from the nightshade family, which is also used for phytotherapy (medicinal plant) and is native to Europe, North Africa and North America.

Steroid alkaloids, saponins, tannins, pectins. For the steroid alkaloid solasodine (solasonine) cortisone-like effects have been proven.

Solanum dulcamara extract is used in cosmetic formulations. The extract has astringent, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Cosmetically, the extract is used as a skin care product.

Commission E has positively monographed the dried 2-3 year old stems for supportive therapy of chronic eczema. Usually 1.0-2.0g of drug is prepared on 250ml of water and used for envelopes.
