Ppg-5 pentaerythrityl ether (inci)

PPG-5 is the acronym for "polypropylene glycol", the polymer of propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol), a dihydric alcohol. The number after "PPG" indicates the average number of propylene glycol molecular units, for "PPG-5" this is 5 propylene glycol molecular units.

"pentaerythrityl" refers to pentaerythritol as the alcoholic component, "ether" (ether) the reaction product of two alcohols.

PPG-5 pentaerythrityl ether is used in cosmetic formulations. The mixture of substances acts as an emulsifier (a surface-active substance used as an additive in cosmetic products to combine two immiscible liquids - e.g. oil and water - into one emulsion), as an emollient (makes the skin smooth and supple) and as a viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetic products).
