Olive oil peg-10 esters (inci)

"Olive acid" means a mixture of fatty acids obtained from olive oil (oil from the olive fruit of Olea europaea, the olive tree), "PEG" means a PEG (polyethylene glycol) derivative. The number after "PEG-" (or the first number after "PEG/..) indicates the average number of molecular units -CH2-CH2-O-.

Olive oil PEG-10 esters are used in cosmetic formulations. The fatty acid ester mixture acts as emollient (makes the skin soft and smooth), emulsifier (changes the interfacial tension of liquids like water and oil so that they can be mixed together) and surfactant (washing-active substance).
