O-phenylphenol (inci)

o-Phenylphenol is a phenol derivative (phenol carrying a phenyl radical in the ortho position) used in cosmetic formulations. The substance acts as a preservative (inhibits the development of microorganisms in cosmetic products and preserves them).
The general conditions for preservatives which may be used in cosmetic products are defined in the EC Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009) Annex V.
