Nepeta cataria extract is an extract from the herb of "catnip" (also known as catnip, Nepeta cataria). Nepeta cataria is a plant from the labiate family. It is native to Europe, the Near East and North America. Nepeta cataria extract is an essential oil obtained by steam distillation from the herb collected during the flowering period of the plant.
