Myristyl alcohol (inci)

Myristyl alcohol, a long-chain monohydric alcohol, a fatty alcohol with the molecular formula C14H30 O, a melting point at about 39°C, is used in cosmetic formulations. Furthermore, myristyl alcohol is used as starting material for the production of fatty alcohol sulfates, salts and esters (e.g. myristyl lactates, myristyl betaines, myristyl myristates etc.).

The alcohol acts as an emollient (makes the skin soft and smooth), emulsion stabilizer (supports the emulsion formation and improves the resistance and durability of emulsions), viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetic products), skin care products and foaming agents (increases the foam formation and improves the volume, structure and durability of the foam).
