Montan cera (inci)

Montan cera (cera = latex wax), a wax of mineral origin, is used in cosmetic formulations. Motan wax is a brown-black hard mass (in refined state it is white-yellow) and consists of esters of higher fatty acids (C22-C34), so-called montan acids with higher alcohols. Montan cera is obtained by extraction of bituminous lignite.

The wax is used in cosmetic formulations. It acts as an antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electrical charge on the surface of e.g. hair), binding agent (binds cosmetic preparations containing powders and powders), opacifier (clouds the transparency and translucency of cosmetic products).
