Methenamines (inci)

Methenamine is a substance used in cosmetic formulations. The substance acts as a preservative (inhibits the development of microorganisms in cosmetic products and preserves them). There are concerns about the use of this substance in cosmetics.

Preservatives are substances which are also used in cosmetic products. They inhibit the growth of microorganisms. The general conditions for preservatives which may be used in cosmetic products are defined in the EC Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009) Annex V.
