Magnesium benzoates (inci)

Magnesium (di-)benzoates, the magnesium salt of benzoic acid, are used in cosmetic formulations. It acts as a preservative (inhibits the development of microorganisms in cosmetic products and preserves them).

The framework conditions for preservatives that may be used in cosmetics are laid down in the EC Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009) Annex V.
