Isodeceth-2-cocoate (inci)

Isodeceth-2-cocoate, is the polyoxyethylene ether of isodecyl alcohol, the lipophilic part of which consists of isodecyl alcohol The substance acts as emollient (makes the skin soft and smooth), emulsifier (changes the interfacial tension of liquids like water and oil so that they can be mixed together) and surfactant (washing-active substance).

Polyalkylene glycol ethers are non-ionic surfactants whose lipophilic part consists of higher molecular alcohols (here isodecyl alcohol). The hydrophilic part is formed by short-chain polyethylene glycols (polyoxyethylene). In the designation of the alcohol polyglycol ethers, the inserted numbering indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units per mole. Isodeceth-2, for example, is the INCI designation for a polyoxyethylene ether with 2 ethylene oxide units per mole.
