Fluoro c2-8 alkylmetheticone (inci)

Fluoro C2-8 alkylmetheticone is a mixture of fluorinated alkyl methicones (see below methicones) whose alkane radicals contain 2-8 C atoms. The alkyl methicone mixture is used as an emulsifier in cosmetic products (changes the interfacial tension of liquids like water and oil so that they can be mixed together).

The presence of alkane residues in silicone compounds (e.g. methicones or dimethicones) causes them to become less water permeable and remain more stable on the skin. Depending on the chain length of the alkane residues (the preceding numbers of the alkane residues "C 1-n" indicate the range of their - carbon chain lengths) alkyl methicones form permeable films on the skin. C30-45 alkyl methicones or dimethicones (e.g. cetyl dimethicones) are frequently used as film formers on the skin. Furthermore, the presence of alkyl methicones improves the stability of ingredients. This is used in some sunscreens to prolong the time they remain on the skin and thus their effectiveness. Cetyl dimethicones are used for this purpose.
