Cellulose (inci)

Cellulose is a vegetable polysaccharide. Cellulose consists of high-molecular unbranched chains in which 500 - 2,000 D-glucose units β-1-4-glycosidically are linked together. Cellulose is the main component of the plant cell walls and leads to their stability. It is hydrolysed by cellulases to the disaccharide cellubiosis.

Cellulose is used in cosmetic products. The substance has an absorbing effect, absorbs water- and/or oil-soluble even finely dispersed substances. Furthermore cellulose acts as an opacifier and viscosity regulator (changes the viscosity of cosmetic products).
