Sodium aluminosilicate

Sodium aluminosilicate is a derivative of silicic acid (E 551). The substance is obtained from naturally occurring quartz sand.

Sodium aluminium silicate is an insoluble white odourless solid. The substance is authorised in the EU under the number E 554 as a food additive with maximum limits of 10g/kg for certain foodstuffs. Sodium aluminosilicate is used as a separating agent or as a carrier substance (for dyes and emulsifiers).

As the finest powders, silicic acid and silicates prevent powders from clumping together or sticking together, for example of confectionery, cheese slices, chewing gum, rice and salt.
