Ribwort pollen allergy J30.- H10.1

Pla l 1 is a major allergen which belongs to the protein family of ole e 1 type proteins with pollen of other species e.g. ash, privet, lilac. There are cross-reactions between the Ole e 1-homologous allergens and the members of the plantationceae family.

So far identified and recognized allergens of Plantago lanceolata:

• Pla l 1 trypsin inhibitor, Ole e 1-related protein (major allergen, marker allergen for sensitization against ribwort pollen)
• Pla l 2 Profilin

In larger Central European collectives, the sensitization rate against Pla l 1 was around 10% among pollen sensitized persons.

The suffix "rich" means "king", so the name plantain can be explained as "king of the ways".
