Non-allergic, non-inflammatory hyperreactivity of the nasal mucosa due to hormonal dysfunctions.

Under this diagnosis, clinical pictures like:

• (Allergic or non-allergic) pregnancy rhinitis (preferably occurring in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy)n.
• Rhinopathy with hormonal contraception
• Rhinopathy in thyroid diseases (autoimmune thyroiditis)
• Rhinopathy in acromegaly

As is known from the example of pregnancy rhinitis, both allergic and non-allergic rhinitis can develop de novo or existing rhinitis can be engraved.

Non-specific hyperreactivity of the nasal mucosa. The aetiopathogenesis is not yet known for sure.

Patients suffer from increasing nasal obstruction. Only slight or completely absent increase in secretion or sneezing stimulus.

In women with gestational rhinopathy, elevated estrogen levels - and elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor(see below) are found compared to non-rhinopathic pregnant women.
