Rat allergy

Allergic reaction to rat allergens found in the rat's urine and hair.

An allergy to rats seems to be relatively rare. There is only little work in this field. More often affected are breeders or animal keepers. The rat allergy is usually triggered by skin scales and hair (rat epithelia).

Council n 1 lipocalin (liver and urine of rats); Council n 1 and Mus m 1 have a high amino acid sequence identity of 64 They are considered marker allergens.

As with other animal hair allergies, rat allergy causes urticarial skin rashes, rhinitis and respiratory allergic reactions. The symptoms of rat allergy are similar to those of other animal hair allergies.
