Food additive (E 507)

Acidity regulator

Hydrochloric acid is permitted for use in foodstuffs without a maximum limit. The only exceptions are untreated foods and foods that are not intended to be altered by additives.

Hydrochloric acid is mainly used to adjust a desired acidity level or for the targeted splitting of proteins. It is also used in drinking water treatment, in cleaning agents (etching, spreading) and spices.
