Disodium deceth-5 sulfosuccinates

Disodium deceth-5 sulfosuccinate is a substance used in cosmetic formulations. The substance acts as a surfactant and cleans the body surface.

Sulphosuccinates are salts or esters of sulphosuccinic acid; 'disodium...' means a di-sodium salt.

The polyoxyethylene ethers of decyl alcohol are called deceth(e) (for comparison see e.g. laurethe, stearethe). The hydrophilic part of the molecule is formed by short-chain polyethylene glycols (polyoxyethylene). In the designation of fatty alcohol polyglycol ethers, the inserted numbering means the average number of ethylene oxide units per mole. Deceth- 5, for example, is the INCI designation for a polyoxyethylene ether with 5 ethylene oxide units per mol.
