Cattle allergy J30.4

Sensitisation of people who have intensive contact with cattle (Bos domesticus) (e.g. farmers). Clinical symptoms are allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, bronchial asthma, and exanthema. Allergens have been found in bovine epithelia, bovine hair, urine and saliva of cattle. 12 allergens were analysed and identified (Bos d 1- d 12 -s.u. http://allergen.org).

Known and identified allergens of Bos domesticus (domestic cattle). The other known cattle allergens are food allergens in milk and meat (see below cow's milk allergy).

• Bos d 2 Lipocalin: Major allergen, the allergen is found in 90% of bovine allergy sufferers.
• Bos d 3 S100 Calcium binding protein: not sufficiently characterised. High homology (63%) to human psoriasin.

Determination of specific IgE.

Among the identified allergens, Bos d 3 is the major allergen. Cattle allergens play an important role in occupational bronchial asthma.
